The Container Principle: The Wisdom of No Escape

Since 1994, the Nova Scotia Sea School has been practicing a number of unique techniques and approaches to working with groups, which are combined into the framework called “The Container Principle; The Wisdom of No Escape”. In a spirit of mutual enrichment and support, we invite our colleagues and friends to explore with us these approaches to working with others in the most effective way possible.

This professional training deals with the following themes:

  • Program Design; "Out of intense complexities, intense simplicities arise."
  • The Container Principle; the wisdom of no escape
  • The Responsibilities of Leadership; when to direct, when to facilitate, when to follow
  • The Uses of Ritual; form and celebration
  • Challenge and Choice; letting the environment do the work
  • The Power of Silence; seeing ourselves and others clearly
  • Meeting Our Own Expectations; dealing with hope and doubt

On completing this program you will have a new toolbox of skills that foster insight, compassion and humour in those you work with, and for yourself. You will have a new perspective on how to steer a chaotic situation to a successful resolution, and you will understand more about your own strengths as a leader and role model. We offer this training as day Workshops ashore also Wilderness First Aid Training for Sailors.

See our program schedule for this spring's line up of Experiential Education Theory and Practice sessions.
