MAST RAISING LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP
ABOUT THE MAST RAISING WORKSHOP
The Mast Raising Leadership Workshop is presented by The Nova Scotia Sea School and is a completely unique approach to teamwork. Utilizing the Sea School’s philosophy of experiential learning, participants learn to work together and follow commands in silence to make complicated knots and to raise a mast. The exciting part of this program is that the entire goal is a mystery and the sense of purpose is a discovery that the crew members unfold together. The “a-ha” moment happens when the group sees the remarkable results of their teamwork. At this point we begin to use verbal commands to keep the mast upright and explore the effectiveness of both working together in silence and when talking. Once each skill is taught, the Sea School facilitators transfer leadership to the participants and allow space for them to teach and command each other while maintaining group safety.
