COURSE DESCRIPTION

Improve your sailing skills as you explore the beautiful coastal waters and islands of the South Shore of Nova Scotia!  This is an extended trip to our usual 7-day trips for added challenge and added scope!

For the duration of your trip, you will live on board one of our 30' traditional wooden expedition sailboats; they are sturdy and very seaworthy.  The boats are ketch-rigged - 3 sails (jib, main, mizzen). There is no motor, so when there's no wind we have 8 large oars to row! We leave from our boathouse in historic Lunenburg on the south shore and return to Lunenburg, so the general sailing area is in Mahone Bay, St. Margaret's Bay and the LaHaves.

We sail during the day and anchor at night and sleep on board. All of our trips are participant-led; meaning that the crew decides together where to go, their strategy to get there, and what acivities each day may hold!  Each trip is different, each crew is different - it's your adventure - you decide how you want to live it.

The youth crew works together to do everything that needs to be done on board - you learn how to sail, how to row the boat, how to navigate by chart and compass, how to prepare all meals, how to make decisions about where to go and how to get there, and how to be responsible for the safety of the boat and her crew.

*This trip is geared toward more experienced crew; Sea School alumni and youth who have experience being in the wilderness for an extended period of time.

TUITION INCLUDES

Tuition for this trip includes all group gear such as sleeping bags, sleeping mats, tarps, foul weather (heavy rain) gear (including rubber boots), eating gear & food, etc.  Participants are responsible for assembling the clothing items in their pack list.  If you do not have or cannot find a clothing item, we have a collection of clothing to lend, which we are happy to lend you on the condition that you let us know ahead of time, & it is returned to us.

COMMITMENT TO DIVERSE CONTRIBUTION

Sea School is committed long-term to improving diversity within its leadership and participantship in a meaningful and structural way.  If you are an applicant who is part of an underserved population in the sailing community, we are interested in assisting you on your journey with us, providing any necessary training to you or our staff, and hearing what you have to say about what might make your opportunity for participation and leadership in this field possible.  Reach out if you'd like to hear more about Sea School's commitments, goals, intentions, and partnerships with regards to diversity in sailing and in outdoor communities.
